Meet the Team

Pieter has had an impressive career in engineering, starting as an Engineer-in-Training at the Department of Water Affairs, where he worked for five years managing projects in the Eastern Transvaal region. During that time, he gained valuable experience in designing and building small dams and other engineering schemes.
In 1988, Pieter moved to Burger, Pretorius and Partners, becoming a Professional Engineer. He worked on large projects, supervising them full-time, and eventually became an associate with the company.
In early 1991, he joined TC Mitchell and Partners, focusing on dam engineering and water-related structures, as well as legal work. By 1992, he became a partner at the firm. Then, in 1994, he launched his own company, Pro-Consult, where he worked on road and water provision projects.
Pieter’s career continued to evolve when he became a Director at GVM Incorporated in 1998. He also became a director at Munyai Malaka Engineers (Pty) Ltd in 1999 but left in 2004 to start PG Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd. Later, in 2014, PG Consulting merged with Element Consulting Engineers, and Pieter took on the role of Executive Director overseeing the Northern Region.
In 2017, Pieter returned to being the Managing Director and owner of PG Consulting (Pty) Ltd after resigning from Element Consulting Engineers.
With over 35 years of experience, Pieter has built a strong expertise in Municipal Services, Water Engineering, and Dams and Canals. He is also an Approved Professional Person (APP) for several dams across South Africa and plays an active role in mentoring young engineers and technicians. He’s even led workshops on the operation and maintenance of dams and continues to expand his mentoring efforts in the field.

Meet Francois. He started his career in 1988 as a junior Technician with the Department of Agriculture in Nylstroom, where he worked on water run-off control planning for the Springbok Flats. By 1995, he moved to Pietersburg (Polokwane) to manage the Soil Conservation Subsidy Scheme for the Limpopo Province.
In 1997, he joined the National Department of Water Affairs in Pretoria, diving into dam safety as a Chief Technician in the Dam Safety Office. That’s where he really got a deep understanding of all things dam safety.
After leaving the government in 2002, he launched his own company, F&B Consulting Engineering Services, and later teamed up with PG Consulting Engineers in 2004. There, he worked on dam inspections, designs, flood hydrology calculations, spillway capacity evaluations, and flood line analysis.
In 2014, he joined Element Consulting Engineers in Johannesburg and, after getting professionally registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technologist in 2016, climbed to the role of Senior Civil Technologist. But in 2018, he decided to go back to PG Consulting Engineers full-time as a Technical Director.
Today, Francois specializes in hydrology and flood calculations, flood line analysis, dam engineering, and soil conservation. He’s also an Approved Professional Person (APP) with the Department of Water and Sanitation, which means he’s recognized as an expert in dam engineering.
